Messaging

Two-way conversations that stay private and on the record.

"Can I just text the teacher?" Yes, and no personal number ever changes hands.

Staff and families message one to one, in groups, or by class. Every conversation is translated both ways, kept private, and archived automatically. No personal phone numbers change hands, and administrators decide who can message whom.

Separate, private conversations with the right people

Families hold a separate thread with each teacher and staff member, and can reply privately to any post or message. The class administrator decides who can message whom, so a parent reaches the people who can actually help, and no one else.

✓
1:1, group, and class threads — with role-based permissions per community
✓
Mass private messaging — one update sent as individual private threads, recipients never see each other
✓
Private replies to any post or message — kept out of the public feed
✓
No personal numbers shared — staff message without exposing a cell
✓
Forward, add, or grow a thread — forward any message into a new or existing conversation, or add someone to a conversation already underway, with a warning first that they'll see its full history
02

Translated both ways, and kept for the record

A parent writes in their home language and the teacher reads English; the reply lands back in the parent's language. Every word is saved, and either side can print or export the full history when they need a record.

✓
Two-way translation — across 100+ languages, on every message
✓
Automatic archival — every conversation retained for reference
✓
Print or save history — export a thread for documentation
✓
Read receipts — see when a message was actually opened
✓
Search, sort & filter your inbox — find a conversation by class, unread status, or date, and sort recipients by last name

Family Messaging: parents reach their own child directly, on the district's terms

Older students already have their own Bloomz account to hear from teachers, so the one edge missing was letting a parent message their own child directly, a quick pickup change, a check-in after practice, without relaying it through a teacher or the front office. ParentSquare built a second, separate app for this (StudentSquare), middle and high school only. Bloomz just unlocks the edge on the account students already have, and it's off until an administrator says otherwise.

✓
Off by default, admin-controlled — enable district-, school-, or class-wide, or not at all
✓
Only their own child — a parent can message the student(s) they're linked to, no one else's
✓
Custody-safety exclusions — restrict a specific guardian from a specific student, independent of the class setting
✓
Fails closed, enforced instantly — ambiguous cases default to blocked, and turning the setting off closes existing threads immediately, not just new ones

Parent–student messaging is off district-wide.
Families still message staff as usual.

Off by default. Turn it on district-, school-, or class-wide — and existing threads close the instant you turn it back off.

Profanity screening with an admin escalation queue

Posts, comments, and messages are screened against a transparent wordlist before they deliver — deterministic, no AI judging anyone's tone. Flagged language warns the sender first; choosing "send anyway" doesn't deliver it, it holds it in a review queue where the group's moderators or a school administrator approve, reject, or — admin-only — suspend the author. Severity decides the outcome: threats are blocked outright with no override, while safety-sensitive language is delivered and quietly alerts your team, because blocking a cry for help is the wrong failure. Off by default; the school decides if and where it turns on.

✓
Warn first, hold on override — the sender can self-edit; "send anyway" routes to review instead of delivering
✓
Admin escalation queue — group moderators review first, school admins escalate — approve, reject, or suspend
✓
Severity-aware by design — threats blocked outright; safety-sensitive language delivered with a quiet team alert
✓
Deterministic, not AI — a wordlist your district can see — no opaque model scoring your community's speech

…and honestly this schedule change is a stupid decision by an idiot administration…
This message may not meet community guidelines
You can edit the highlighted language, or send it anyway — sending anyway holds it for an administrator to review instead of delivering it.
Severity decides the outcome: threats are blocked outright with no override, and safety-sensitive language is delivered while quietly alerting your team — blocking a cry for help is the wrong failure.

A deterministic wordlist screens posts, comments, and messages before they deliver — no AI judging anyone. Overriding the warning holds the message for human review instead of sending it. Off by default; your admin switches it on.

Voice and video messages, right in the same thread

ParentSquare sells voice clips; TalkingPoints sells video messaging with translated captions, its signature feature. Bloomz attaches both, a voice clip or a short video, to a post, a direct message, or a mass message, no separate recording app to open. Every clip gets an automatic transcript, and a viewer can pull up a translated caption on demand, the same translation engine that already covers every typed message.

✓
Attach to posts, DMs, or mass messages — not a separate module, an attachment type everywhere Bloomz already messages
✓
Automatic transcription — every voice and video message gets a written transcript
✓
Translated captions on request — a viewer pulls up a caption in their language from Bloomz's existing translation pipeline
✓
Same moderation coverage as text — a flagged transcript can be hidden from view and reviewed the same way flagged text already is
